Tropaeolum tricolor - Bolivian Nasturtium

Tropaeolum tricolor sometimes given the common name of Bolivian nastrutium is a twining climber from the Andean Mountains of Chile.

Tropaeolum tricolor bears orange-red, yellow and blue/maroon flowers between winter and early summer depending on conditions. This species has a tuberous root and attractive light green rounded, palmate leaves. It should be considered frost tender and is suitable for cool (preferrably frost free) greenhouses and conservatories.

For the best results it needs cold stratification for germination and is best sown in autumn. It dislikes disturbance for it's first year of growth preferring to wait until it has died back and formed a tuber.
